British Council Northern Ireland is looking for a supplier to undertake the second edition of our biennial research and report on Language Trends Northern Ireland.

The successful supplier should have an understanding of the Northern Ireland context in which the research is to be conducted.

Language Trends Northern Ireland is a biennial survey of all primary and post-primary schools in Northern Ireland, designed to gather information and insight about the current situation for language teaching and learning and trends. This will be the second edition of Language Trends Northern Ireland, following on from the inaugural report published in 2019.

Its aims are to:

  • assess the impact of policy measures in relation to languages;
  • analyse trends in language teaching in Northern Ireland along with opportunities and threats to language learning;

based both on quantitative evidence and on views expressed by school leaders and pupils.

Our inaugural report from 2019 can be viewed here. This academic year, in addition to re-surveying our Principals and Heads of Modern Language departments, we also want to hear the views of pupils; thus creating a two-pronged research piece.
