What is the Shakespeare on Film touring collection?

The British Film Institute (BFI) have launched a major project celebrating Shakespeare on film. The project includes films dating from 1899 right up to the present day, all adapted from and inspired by Shakespeare’s work.

They will screen in cinemas internationally and online.

Screenings in Northern Ireland

April - May 2016: Shakespeare Lives through Sir Kenneth Branagh on stage and screen

Exhibtion featuring rarely seen artefacts from the Sir Kenneth Branagh Archive in Special Collections, the McClay Library (QUB), which illustrate the actor-director's remarkable Shakespeare career, from his debut as Henry V with the Royal Shakespeare Company aged just 23 to his Oscar-nominated screen adaption of Hamlet, and beyond.

The exhibtion will then travel to various Higher Education Institutions in Northern Ireland and Ireland.

May - June: BFI presents Shakespeare on film

As part of Shakespeare on Film, QFT will present  a special programme of films and events during May and June. Programme highlights include a focus on the many adaptions of Shakespeare's greatest tragey, Macbeth, and a season dedicated to the Shakespeare films of Belfast's own Sir Kenneth Branagh.
