In February 2020, a group of eight teachers from Northern Ireland travelled to San Francisco to explore the ways in which this state, and more specifically, the county of San Mateo, have been addressing the issue of inclusivity in schools in relation to LGBTQ+ pupils.

The aim of this study visit was to explore the development and implementation of LGBTQ+ curriculum, learning from San Mateo and San Francisco school districts in California (the first state to make the teaching of this curriculum mandatory) - and incuded the following themes - addressing invisibility, career professional development, moving from pastoral to curriculum and access to support and outside agencies
