Professional Development Workshops

When: Wednesday, 21st November 2018, 1.30pm  Where: Bangor Aurora Aquatic & Leisure Complex, 3 Valentine Road, Bangor, Co-Down, BT20 4TH

The purpose of the study visit was to gain an insight into the early provision in France, and to hear directly about the policy context as well as see first-hand a range of practice and provision.  The group of attendees were drawn from both practice and policy backgrounds, and were able to share policy context and practice developments with colleagues in France. The main aim of the visit was to gain a better understanding of:

  • What early years provision is offered in France?
  • The particular successes in France?
  • Monitoring and evaluation of practice
  • The key challenges - are there comparisons with NI context?
  • Future development of Early Years

The visit also enabled the group to find out more about how early years provision is ensuring a good start for pupils and is reducing under-achievement in later years in France.

The workshop will be led and delivered by:

Cathy Galway, Acting Director of Youth, Early Years and Childcare Department of Education (DENI)

Catherine Stewart, Foundation stage teacher, St. Colmcille's Primary School

Anne O’Sullivan, Newcomer teacher, St Comgall's Primary School

Sharon Cleary, Head of Foundation KS1, Windmill Integrated Primary School
